I thoroughly enjoyed this Ted Talk from Tres Roeder. In my opinion, he delivered a framework on how to both deal with and drive change. As a leader, we sometimes encounter scenarios that require a different way of delivering value. This can be via a new project, changing a process or reorganizing a team. This talk paints a thoughtful way to bring about the change as a result of these types of scenarios and more. He introduces six disciplines. 1. Awareness, 2. Whole Body Decisions, 3. Clear Communication, 4. Adaptability, 5. Diplomacy & 6. Persistence.
Tres is both founder and president of Roeder Consulting, and since graduating from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management with a Master’s degree in Business Administration, he has authored two Amazon best-sellers, A Sixth Sense for Project Management and Managing Project Stakeholders. As a consultant in project and change management, he has worked with John Deere, Goodyear, Lowes, Chrysler, and other top brands. In his talk, he talked about his experience with change management and how his 6 disciplines can be applied.
“In order to lead change you need to surround yourself with a group of people that believe it’s going to happen”
Take a moment and listed to the Ted Talk. It should take about 15 mins to complete. It’s well worth it, especially for professionals who are driving change.
